Donald J. Dennis, 57, of Hartford City, IN, passed away at 7:50 PM on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at IU Health Blackford Hospital in Hartford City, IN.  He was born on Thursday, October 30, 1958, in Hartford City.  He married Nancy I. (Eltzroth) Dennis on Monday, August 12, 1995 in Hartford City, IN.  Donald was a 1977 graduate of Blackford High School.He had received his Associates degree at ITT. He was a Environmental & Safety Coordinator for Forever Resorts in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). He enjoyed watching airplane shows, gardening, and his dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents-Freeman Donald and Marjorie R. (Wright) Dennis, Brothers - Steven Dennis and Terry Dennis.

A service to celebrate Donald’s life will be at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 06, 2015 with the Pastor Tom Parsons officiating.  Interment will follow in the Brookside Memorial Park in Montpelier.

George Oden Jr.

George Oden Jr., 92, of Warren, IN, formerly of Huntington, IN, passed away at 2:25 AM on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Heritage Pointe in Warren.  He was born on Tuesday, June 19, 1923, in Huntington, to George Christian and Hazel Berniece (Howell) Oden.  He married Wanda May Nicholson in 1942; after 36 years of marriage Wanda passed away in 1978.  George found happiness once more with Colleen (Duff) Gibboney, whom he married on February 29, 1980, in Huntington; she survives. 

 

George was a 1941 graduate of Huntington High. Shortly after graduating high school he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in December of 1942. George served as a fighter pilot in WWII, where he flew mostly P47s. During his time in the military he flew over 30 missions in the Pacific. He had always dreamed of flying as a boy and was able to make those dreams come true by serving his country from 1942-1944. After the military he worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural route mail carrier in Huntington County. George was a member of the American Legion, Kiwanis Club and active in the P47 Army Air Corps Organization. He enjoyed golfing and woodworking in his free time. George was a member of the United Church of Christ in Warren. He will always be remembered for being a very, very loving husband, dad and grandpa.

He was preceded in death by his: Father - George Christian Oden, Mother - Hazel Berniece (Howell) Oden and Brother - Harold Oden.

 

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at the United Church of Christ 212 E. 2nd Warren, IN 46792 on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A service to celebrate George’s life will be at the United Church of Christ at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 29, 2015; viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.  Rev. Scott Nedberg will be officiating and Rev. Howard Cress will assist.  Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory in Marion.

Loren (Elwood) Karchner

Loren Elwood Karchner, 92, of Heritage Pointe, Warren, IN., passed away on October 16, 2015 at Huntington Parkview Hospital, Huntington IN.  He was born in Nescopeck, PA to Loren R. Karchner and Harriet (Pettit) Karchner on January 24, 1923.

Elwood graduated from Van Buren High School, class of 1941. He joined the Marines on Oct. 23,1941 and served in the South Pacific area with the second Marine division during World War II. He was discharged Nov. 13, 1945. After coming home from the service Elwood had several different jobs. He worked at the B&L Popcorn company of Van Buren and the Appliance Mgf. Co. of Van Buren. He was a supervisor at RCA in Marion, IN and owner and operator of the Van Buren Lubritory. Elwood then retired from Huntington Laboratories in Huntington, IN in 1988. He was active in the Van Buren Lions Club and with the Boy Scouts.

Loving Survivors include: Wife-Karen Karchner of Warren, IN, one Son-David W. Karchner of Fairmount, IN, one Step-daughter- Susan (Brian) Brock Williams of Indianapolis, IN, Grandson- Ronald (Nicole) Graffis of Arlington. TX, Great Grandsons- Luke and Dylan Graffis of Arlington, TX, Step Grandchildren- Maxwell, Owen, and Ava Williams of Indianapolis, IN, Brother- Jerry (Lorraine) Harvey of Bangor, Maine,  and sister-Donna (Don) Zent of Warren, IN.

He was preceded in death by parents Loren K. and Harriett Karchner, and by his first wife Katherine (Duncan) Karchner.

Family and friends may gather to share and remember Elwood at Applegate Chapel at Heritage Pointe, Warren, IN, from 12 Noon until 2:00 PM on Wednesday October 21, 2015.

A service to celebrate Elwood's life will be held at 2:00 PM in Applegate Chapel with Pastors Gerald Moreland, Ginny Soultz, Ed Clark, Dick Case, and Mark Hoffar officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Garden of Memory Cemetery, Marion, IN.

Phillip M. Edwards

Phillip M. Edwards, 74, of Montpelier, IN, passed away at 2:37 AM on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at his residence in Montpelier, IN.  He was born on Saturday, November 16, 1940, in Gas City, IN.  He married Mattie L. (Shepherd) Edwards on Saturday, December 27, 1980. Phillip graduated from Van Buren High School. He entered the U.S. Army where he furthered his education in Engineering. He worked at Owens- Illinois in Marion, and retired from the Indiana State Highway. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors, and especially liked John Deere. He had recently finished a Super MTA International. Phillip enjoyed auctions, and camping with friends. He was a member of Wheels of Yester Years, Tri-State Gas and engine, and Warren Area Antique Tractor Club, Inc.

Robert W. Harrison, 80, of Geneva, IN, passed away at 4:53 PM on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IN.  He was born on Monday, April 29, 1935, in Hillsboro, OH.  He married Helen W. (Massey) Harrison on Monday, August 26, 1963 in Portland.  Robert attended school in Ohio and Kentucky. He had worked for Central Soya in Decatur for 13 1/2 years. He retired in 2009 from Cheeseman Trucking Co. in Fort Recovery, OH. where he had worked for over 20 years.  He attended Florence Baptist Temple in Kentucky.
