Bernard William Cook, 76, of Van Buren, IN, passed away at 7:00 AM on Monday, January 09, 2017 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN.  He was born on Saturday, May 11, 1940, in Grant County, IN.  He married Nancy E. Welsh on Sunday, June 19, 1960 in Van Buren; together the two have celebrated 56 and 1/2 years of marriage.  Bernard was a 1958 graduate of Van Buren High School. He retired from Ameritech in 1994 after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Van Buren United Methodist Church and served in many different positions at the church. He enjoyed being outdoors engaging in activities such as camping, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Mississinewa 1812 Battlefield Society and liked watching NASCAR in his free time.

He was preceded in death by his: Father - John William Cook, Mother - Mary Rebecca (King) Cook and Son - John William Cook.


Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Van Buren United Methodist Church-Fellowship Hall 108 South 2nd St. Van Buren on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.


A service to celebrate Bernard’s life will be at Van Buren United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 16, 2017; viewing will be held one hour prior to the service with Pastor Cindy Osgood officiating.  Interment will follow in the Gardens of Memory in rural Marion.
